board™ Design News Snippet:

board™ Runs Rings Around London With 2012 London Olypics Tube Map Bid.

board™ is currently attempting to capture the imagination of Transport for London (TFL), with it’s alternative re-working of the London tube map.

Designed to celebrate the up-coming 2012 Olympics, this project was opened early last year to look into the viability of re-constructing the map entirely out of rings, as opposed to lines, reflecting the rings of the famous Olympic symbol. After much experimentation, last year’s initial results were startlingly effective, and recent usability feedback has been very positive.
